April Walking Tours Showcase Downtown Tuscaloosa’s Rich Heritage
Each Saturday in April, downtown Tuscaloosa transforms into a living history experience as Visit Tuscaloosa joins the Alabama Tourism Department’s statewide history-focused walking tour initiative. In partnership with Historic Tuscaloosa, the organization continues its Downtown Walking Tours, offering an engaging and educational way to discover the city’s rich heritage.
“Partnerships like this play a key role in engaging both visitors and residents while strengthening connections to Tuscaloosa’s defining moments,” said Kelsey Rush, Visit Tuscaloosa President and CEO. “We’re proud to continue working alongside Historic Tuscaloosa to bring these important stories to life.”

Guided by Will Hawkins, Executive Director of Historic Tuscaloosa, attendees will journey through more than 200 years of the city’s history. From its days as Alabama’s state capital to its rich cultural and architectural evolution.
“The walking tours will take place every Saturday in April, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Jemison-Van de Graaff Mansion and lasting approximately 90 minutes,” said the press release. “Each tour is limited to 20 participants to ensure an intimate and interactive experience.”
Although the tours are free to attend, donations to Historic Tuscaloosa are encouraged to help preserve the city’s historic landmarks.
“The Downtown walking tours will offer an engaging and entertaining way to experience Tuscaloosa’s history,” said Hawkins. “We’ll explore as much of the city’s 200-year story as possible while highlighting some of the most compelling moments from our shared past. It’s a chance to learn something new and walk away with a deeper appreciation for Tuscaloosa’s rich history.”
Registration for the tours is required due to limited space. To reserve a spot, contact Historic Tuscaloosa at (205) 758-2238 or via email at info@historictuscaloosa.org.
