It's no secret that I wasn't too thrilled about turning 40 (which is stupid as any day we're fortunate to see is a blessing). However, it turned out to be the best birthday I've ever celebrated!

For starters, I woke up to HUGE balloons and a smiling daughter and sister.  My 9-year-old was as excited about celebrating my birthday as I am to make sure each of hers are spectacular, and my sister was just as determined to make sure my day was enjoyable... So much so that they sang Happy Birthday to me and presented me with a strawberry shortcake... at 7:30 in the morning!

After I finished getting dressed and left the house for work, I stopped for a pastry and learned it was National Coffee Day. So, I got a free cup of coffee.  Look, the small things mean a lot sometimes. This was one of those times.

When I finally arrived, one of my coworkers had decorated my office with all kinds of things, after a few hours, I received a DELICIOUS red velvet cake, roses, and balloons. (Shout out to Pastor Anthony Martin! EVERYBODY who's gotten a slice has expressed how good the cake is!)

At the end of my work day, I took my daughter to her gymnastics class and went to visit my grandmother, who'd prepared one of my favorite meals. I didn't eat it right then because I'd had lunch, and I was told I had dinner plans, although I wasn't told what they were.

So, I went back to my daughter's class and stayed until it was over. My sister met us there and picked her up to take her home while I was treated to dinner at MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE restaurant in Tuscaloosa: R. Davidson Chophouse!

Upon entrance, we were welcomed by a couple celebrating another birthday: Marcus and Lisa Knowles-Smith! Lisa and I share a birthday!!!

I'm truly convinced that I couldn't have been born on a better day as there are so many people I absolutely adore who were born on the same day, and I have come to realize that the decade birthdays keep getting better and better!

I can't wait to turn 50!!!

Ok, I'm lying! I'm not ready for 50, but 40 is about to get THE BUSINESS!
