45 Days Away from Bama Kickoff: Jalston Fowler

Each day counting down to Alabama's Week 1 matchup with Utah State, I will highlight one former player whose jersey number coincides with the amount of days until the game. Kickoff is in just 45 days, so let's look at another former Bama lead blocker, Jalston Fowler. 

Jalston Fowler joined the Crimson Tide in 2010 as a four-star running back out of Prichard, AL. While he was not the fastest or most athletic back coming out of high school, Fowler had the ability to run through defenders like a bowling ball through pins and made himself a prospect that many schools wanted on their team.

Despite interest from several other schools, SEC included, Fowler rolled with the Tide and put together a very solid five-year career as as a fullback.

In his first season, Fowler saw time in eleven games, finishing the season with just over 100 rushing yards and touchdown. While he was unable to produce much in terms of yardage or scoring, he made up for it with his ability to open up holes for Alabama's backs to run through.

As a sophomore, Fowler continued to do much of the same. He saw time in 13 games and finished with 385 rushing yards and four scores, but more importantly paved the way for the likes of Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy.

In his junior year, the bulldozing back was bit by the injury bug and only saw time in two games, but returned the next year and bounced back to his usual self. Though Bama lost both Richardson and Lacy to the draft in back-to-back seasons, the running back room was refueled with the likes of T.J Yeldon, Kenyan Drake, Derrick Henry and more.

In his final season with the Tide, Fowler saw time in 12 games and helped pave the way for Alabama's berth in the inaugural College Football Playoff.

After his Crimson Tide career, Fowler was selected in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans and spent three seasons with the team. Though he saw time in most of Tennessee's games in his three years, the former four-star was unable to secure his spot in the NFL and was waived in 2017.

Fowler bounced around various practice squads for the next two seasons, but eventually called it a career. In 2019, he married his now wife, BreShawn, and the two have two children, Jalston, Jr. and Jayce.
