Some of the best food in the world is found in the great state of Alabama. Southern cooking trumps them all. The mom-and-pop restaurants in Alabama rival all other states. Okay, except maybe Louisiana. New Orleans in particular. Alabama BBQ. Fried everything. Our desserts like Banana Pudding, Red Velvet Cake, or Pecan Pie.

I have dined at some of them but not all of them. The list looks solid to this southern foodie. All seven restaurants have been added to my foodie bucket list.

Number One:  The original Dreamland barbecue in Tuscaloosa. Since 1958
These hickory-fired ribs have dominated the barbecue scene.

Number Two: Martin's restaurant Montgomery.
The crispy fried chicken is legendary.

Number Three: Little Libby's Catfish in Madison, Alabama.
Whole and filet fried catfish served with slaw and hushpuppies. None finer anywhere.
