Think about it. There are apple pies, Dunkin’ apple cider donuts, cast iron skillet apple crumble, apple fritters, and apple cake. I have a tie for my favorite apple dessert; it’s either candied apples or my mother’s caramel apple poke cake.

Since it’s National Apple Day, think about adding apples to your Fall To-Do list. Many fun things you can do with apples. There is apple picking, supporting local and state farmer’s apple supplies, making apple cider, appletini’s, and so much more.

My family history is rooted in farming. My mother came from various vegetable and cattle farming. Dairy farming was my Dad’s side of the family. Therefore, it is important to be me to support local and state farmers. Here are some great places where you can fill up on your joy of apples. I always suggest calling ahead to be sure of days and hours of operation because they can change due to the seasons.

Fall favorites can be found in Talladega, Alabama. A for sure stop is at the Holmestead Farm, 6582 County Road 7 Talladega, Al 35160. They offer a “beautiful 95 acre U-Pick organic-practiced berry, fruit and vegetable farm located at the foothills of the Talladega National Forest in East Central Alabama.” Let’s talk about the fried pies that the Country Store offers. Of course, my go-to is Apple Pie.

A great find in North Central Alabama is the Steele Orchard. Two words for you – Apple Butter! They have “offered the highest quality of products at the lowest possible price since 1985.” It’s a nice drive over to 1695 County Road 1141, Cullman, AL, 35057. Also, the bakery items are exceptional too!

In North Alabama, you can find Scott's Orchard, 2163 Scott Road, Hazel Green, AL, 35750. This makes for a cute day trip. The farm was founded in 1901 by Thomas M. Scott, Jr. and his wife, Viola. Now, Scott's Orchard is in its third generation of family owners.

Isom's Orchard’s Apple Cider Slushies! That right there is worth the drive to 24012 US Highway 72, Athens, AL, 35613. This adventure makes for a fabulous day of fall fun. Isom's Orchard’s has been providing quality produce since 1957. Another remarkable fact is that “Isom's Orchard in Athens, now in its fourth generation of growers.” Another excellent attraction about this orchard is that it offers a Picnic in the Persimmons.

Crow Mountain Orchards is another state gem in North East Alabama. You can find them at 6236 County Road 39, Fackler, AL, 35746. My friends tell me that the Apple Cider is absolutely the best from Crow Mountain. Bob and Carol Deutscher started the orchard in the early 1970s. Fun fact, “Bob still works 7 days a week all year to bring his customers the best fruit in the southeast. Come by our salesroom and say hello–he will be in the backpacking and grading the fresh fruit.”
