During the week of April 27, over 6,400 women of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® South Eastern Region, which includes Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee, painted Birmingham, Alabama pink and green for their yearly conference.

One of the featured events during the conference was the sororities' Public Meeting, held on Thursday, April 30, at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Complex. A special treat was national best-selling author and community activist Stacey Abrams as the keynote speaker.

In addition, the program honored citizens for excellence in community service, reinforcing the sorority’s enduring mission of “Service to All Mankind.”

“Through their respective work, each honoree demonstrates how purposeful action, compassion, and leadership can uplift and transform people and communities,” said AKA South Eastern Regional Director Tracey Morant Adams.

Tuscaloosa Principal Honored

Tuscaloosa was proudly represented during the public meeting as Donmonique Morgan received the Enhance Our Environment Award. The honor recognized the impactful collaboration among the Children’s Center, STARS Academy, and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® Eta Xi Omega Chapter in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for their commitment to strengthening the community through service and environmental stewardship.

‘This award affirms what I see every day,” said Morgan. “Our students are capable, resilient, and full of promise. It reflects a school community that refuses to settle and shares a commitment to creating opportunities that extend far beyond our walls.”
