There are several weather systems across the United States, bringing either tons of snow or just a few flurries. The other concern is “Not only snow, but Arctic air will surge southward as well, causing temperatures to dive across the eastern half of the country,” said The Weather Channel. “This, along with strong winds, will create dangerous wind chills for millions."

Closer to Home

“As colder air drops south, there is a brief window for a few snowflakes on the back side of the precipitation early tomorrow morning over Southeast Alabama, but no meaningful accumulation or impact is expected,” said James Spann, Alabama Weather Network and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist.

Henry County is the only Alabama county under a Winter Weather Advisory, with the advisory extending into neighboring areas of central Georgia.  “It is not out of the question for other southern counties to be included in the advisory in later updates, but again, only due to light amounts accumulating in grassy areas,” said Jim Stefkovich, Meteorologist, Alabama Emergency Management Agency.

Early Sunday morning may bring a brief window when rain changes over to a wintry mix or light snow. This is mainly for areas south of Interstate 85.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said that “Impactful accumulations are not expected, and probabilities of greater than 0.25" of snowfall remain low at about 10-20%, highest in Barbour and Russell counties.”
