While many people were off work today, three of the University of Alabama's female athletes were working hard and bringing home titles.

Emma Talley of the women's golf team and Maya Jansen and Erin Routliffe of the women's tennis team all won national championships in their respective fields this Memorial Day.  Add in the softball team's incredible super regional win on Saturday, and it has been quite the weekend for women's sports at the Capstone.

The Crimson Tide women's golf team, much like their male counterparts, are a national powerhouse and won the championship outright in 2012.  However, no female golfer had ever won the individual title for the Tide.  That changed today as Emma Talley, a junior for Princeton, KY, emerged victorious in Bradenton, FL.  Talley shot 3-under par to hold off Gaby Lopez of Arkansas and Leona Maguire of Duke for the first individual national championship in program history.  Talley came to Alabama as one of the biggest recruits ever for heead coach Mic Potter, and has lived up to her hype as one of the best female golfers in the nation.

Not to be outdone, stars for the Alabama women's tennis team Maya Jansen and Erin Routliffe defeated Cal to win the NCAA women's tennis doubles national championship.  It is the second year in a row that the pair have won the title.  It would be hard to argue that Routliffe, a sophomore from Ontario, and Jansen, a junior from Vallyford, WA, are not the two best players in the program's history.

So congratulations to Talley, Routliffe and Jansen as they continue the tradition of excellence in women's athletics at the University of Alabama.
