Ashanti had to relive her nightmare for the third time and confront her longtime stalker in a New York courtroom on Wednesday (March 16).

The Grammy-winning singer had to testify in a retrial of her stalker David Hurd who is facing a felony stalking charge for repeatedly tweeting lewd messages to her in 2013. The 33-year-old delusional man, who was acting as his own attorney, cross-examined Ashanti and read back graphic tweets he’s written to her, with sexual references including “eating p---- from the back tastes better from a flight to Russia,” according to TMZ.

During her testimony, Ashanti made it clear that she wanted Hurd to stop stalking and harassing her.

“You continuously tweeted over and over again disgusting, derogatory, disrespectful things to me after you had already gone to jail for doing the same thing,” she testified.

“I wish you to stop,” she added. “I just wish you to stop.”

This is the third stalking trial for Hurd. His first trial resulted in a mistrial in December 2014 because a juror grew ill during deliberations. Last October, Hurd was tried again and convicted on several counts but the jury could not reach a verdict on the main count, stalking in the second degree. Prior to that, he was convicted in 2009 of stalking and spent two years in jail.

Ashanti’s mother, Tina Douglas, made an appearance in court and testified against Hurd. “I’m here because I have to let everyone know how I feel about how you stalked my daughter,” she said on Wednesday. The singer’s younger daughter, Kenashia Douglas, also testified.

If found guilty, Hurd faces up to four years in prison.
