Birmingham Citizens Holding Politicians Accountable for Reducing Gun Violence
Sunday, June 24, Faith in Action Alabama plans to host a Stand Against Gun Violence at Bill Harris Arena, beginning at 4 p.m.
The peacemaker movement, composed of leaders, pastors and people of faith will stand together in a peaceful action in an effort to end gun violence. The group is implementing anti-gun violence work at the street level. According to an email from the group's publicist, this will be accomplished by participating in walks, prayer and research focused on saving lives in Alabama.
In addition, members of the Birmingham Peacemakers will call on Mayor Randall Woodfin to address specific and concrete steps for reducing gun violence in Birmingham.
It's wonderful for citizens to hold elected officials accountable to the people they serve, but it's important to note that these same citizens are including themselves in the solution rather than point the finger at someone else to fix the issues in their community.
