Hear me out. You can find really good food at gas stations.

For this “Bite This” review I headed to my secret (or maybe not so secretive) location for one of the best sandwiches ever. My friend Kim turned me on to all the deliciousness that the QT Gas Station in Cottondale, Alabama serves up.

Next time you are near exit 77, be sure to pull up to the QT at 4001 Buttermilk Rd, Cottondale, AL 35453. Every time I’ve visited, everyone is super nice. They even have an area where you can sit outside and enjoy your meal.

Let Me Be Honest

I have had a love affair with grilled cheese sandwiches since I was little. They are warm and comforting. Their goodness reminds me of my mother. Bea made THE BEST grilled cheese sandwiches.

Forget chicken noodle soup when you were sick. In Bea’s kitchen, it was tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. Down in the dumps, got an attitude, life not treating you fair, it was all about the tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich.

So, my expectation of grilled cheese sandwiches is pretty hard. I’m tough on the subject because I’m always comparing them to my mother’s creations.

The Perfect Sandwich at QT

When you get to QT head to the kiosk to order your sandwich, they have tons to select.

Now, mind you at QT they have all types of variations. Shamefully, I’ve tried them ALL!

This particular day and for this review, I picked the QT Ham & Cheese.

Presentation:

It is what you expect from gas station food. My grilled cheese sandwich was wrapped up tight and was pippin’ hot. Visually it wasn’t exactly like the picture but it was pretty close.

Taste:

Listen! This sandwich can’t be beaten. It taste like Jesus touched the hem of the pant leg of the cook. I could tell it was made with some southern love. The cheese was melted perfectly. It was loaded with American and cheddar jack. The Black Forest ham gave it a little extra ump.

Texture:

I don’t know what QT does to the sourdough bread but it is toasted wonderfully. The crunch of the bread into the gooey cheese adds an interesting texture.  My mom made her sandwiches with white bread. So, with sourdough, we would consider this “fancy” bread.

Value:

For less than 5 bucks, it’s a super deal. I got a bag of chips and sugar-free watermelon slushy and had a wonderful day. And for the record, I paid for my sandwich, I got the receipt. I do this because I don’t want anyone to think my option was swayed.

Overall:

I highly recommend the grilled cheese sandwiches at QT. From the classic grilled cheese to the more elaborate ones like Chicken, Bacon, & Ranch Grilled Cheese you can’t go wrong. Click here to check out all their grilled cheese options.

At the end of the day, I think Bea would approve too!
