Comedian & Actor John Witherspoon Has Died

Comedian and actor John Witherspoon has passed away at the age of 77.  According to CNN, in a statement by his family, "It is with deepest sorrow that we can confirm our beloved husband and father, John Witherspoon, one of the hardest working men in show business, died today at his home in Sherman Oaks at the age of 77.”

I have had the great pleasure of seeing John Witherspoon in various comedy clubs and was always entertained.  My favorite movie role was in Boomerang as he played Mr. Jackson.  The stand out scene to me was  iconic moment with Eddie Murphy has Mr. Jackson explained the whole concept of coordinating his mushroom shirt, mushroom belt, and mushroom lined jacket.

He is also known for his role in the films “Friday,” “Next Friday,” and “Friday After Next” playing Ice Cube’s father.  Many celebrities took to Twitter to express their condolences and gratitude for the comedic legend.  Regina King wrote on Twitter, “My dad, my grandpa, my comedic inspiration!  I love you Spoons!  Rest In Paradise, King.”  Ice Cube said that he was “devastated over the passing of John Witherspoon.  Life won’t be as funny without him.”
