Coolio Formally Charged With Gun Possession by a Felon; Rapper a No-Show in Court
Coolio has been formally charged with gun possession by a felon, stemming from his arrest at LAX back in September.
The rap vet was placed in police custody after TSA found a loaded gun in his carry-on bag. Later, police discovered that the 9MM handgun was stolen. Coolio's bodyguard tried to take blame for the gun, but police determined that it belong to the rapper.
Coolio has since apologized for the incident and said that it was just a misunderstanding. “Everything’s fine, I’m fine,” he said. “I don’t know what’s going to be the result of this in the future but for now, I’m fine and I appreciate everyone’s concern.”
On Thursday (Oct. 11), during a hearing, the Los Angeles County D.A. formally filed the charge of possession of a firearm by a felon against the 53-year-old rhymer. However, Coolio was a no-show in court, according to TMZ.
Coolio's attorney explained to the judge that his client had a show in St. Louis and couldn't make it back to his court appearance on time. Luckily, the judge cut the rapper some slack and ordered him to appeared in court on Oct. 26.
If convicted on the charge, Coolio faces up to three years in prison.
