Cornerstone Church to Give Away 300 Boxes of Food Saturday

Years ago, churches served as the centers for their communities, which could possibly be a reason why there are so many within a square mile in numerous cities across the country. Of course, differences in denomination and beliefs are factors as well, but that’s a different topic for a different day.

It was at the church where people would get not only spiritual guidance but also information on what was going on around them. They’d learn of sick neighbors and take over meals to help them during their recovery periods. They’d find out about youth who would be heading off to college or those leaving their immediate surroundings to seek employment and so much more.

So, it’s always refreshing when churches continue in those lines and establish events to serve their communities.

Cornerstone Full Gospel Baptist Church is set to give away 300 boxes of food (including turkeys) this Saturday, November 14 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. or until all of the boxes have been distributed.

Only one box will be given per vehicle. So, those needing to catch a ride should consider finding someone who isn’t planning to be a recipient themselves.

Overseer Freddie Washington said, "Given the times we’re facing because of the pandemic we’re in and the hardships many families are experiencing, we wanted to do our part in bringing about some holiday cheer. In partnership with Ms. Earnestine Tucker with the Westside Community Action Council, the Cornerstone family is ready to serve."

Those willing to assist in packing and distribution should plan to be at the church at 9 a.m. with masks and other protective equipment.
