Tuscaloosa's first craft brewery, Druid City Brewing Company, has been acquired by Huntsville's Straight to Ale in an effort to expand both brands.

Since the brewery was founded in 2012, its beers have only been available on tap. In a press release, DCBC co-founder and co-owner Bo Hicks said the acquisition will allow some those beers to be produced, packaged and distributed in much larger quantities, and to reach further parts of Alabama on draft.

"We saw an opportunity where we could both succeed and be a bigger part of the culture and the community here in Alabama,” Hicks said.

Dan Perry, the owner of Straight to Ale, said he and Hicks have been friends for years and that they agree this acquisition will be beneficial for all parties involved.

“We love what Bo and Elliot have done with Druid City in Tuscaloosa," Perry said. "They’ve created a unique brewery and taproom that we’re excited to be a part of, and we can help expand the brand throughout Alabama."
