New Hypertension and Diabetes Support Group Coming to Eutaw, Alabama
Legacy Medical Training Center and Legacy Community Resource & Training Network are launching their first official Community Hypertension & Diabetes Support Group session, “Kickoff to Health.” The event is Saturday, September 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Legacy Medical Training Center, 117 Greensboro St., in Eutaw.
“The free community event, open to adults ages 18 and older, is designed to provide a welcoming environment where residents can learn more about hypertension and diabetes prevention and management, ask questions, and connect with health and community resources. Lunch will be provided,” said the press release.
Community partnerships will play a key role in the initiative; the West Alabama Cardiac Health Program will provide health education and resources. The Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS) at The University of Alabama will also play an active role in the session. Minds and Mentors Paraprofessional Training Program (MiMP-TP) and The Life Center Organization will also participate as on-site community resource vendors.
“Our goal is to make preventive health education accessible, understandable and connected to the community,” said Desiree’ Seymore, MPH, founder of Legacy Medical Training Center and founder and executive director of Legacy Community Resource & Training Network. “We don’t want people to wait until a health crisis occurs to begin thinking about their numbers. Through this initiative, we are creating a space where people can learn, ask questions, receive support and connect with resources that can help them make healthier choices for themselves and their families.”

Participants will gain practical information on blood pressure and diabetes, including prevention and early detection, healthy lifestyle habits, medication and disease management, and strategies for taking a more active role in their overall health.
Leading the health education efforts will be Dr. Wendell Mew, medical advisor and board member of Legacy Community Resource & Training Network.
“Hypertension and diabetes are conditions that can have serious long-term consequences, but education, prevention and appropriate medical care can make a meaningful difference,” Mew said. “Giving people an opportunity to better understand their health, know what questions to ask and become more engaged in their care is an important part of building a healthier community.”
Registration is strongly encouraged to assist organizers with an accurate attendance and lunch count. To register, email info@legacymedicaltrainingcenter.net or call 205-246-6620.
