
Extreme Cold Watch: Dangerous Wind Chills Expected Across West Alabama
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued an Extreme Cold Watch.
The watch is in effect starting on Monday, January 26, at Midnight through 10 a.m.

Residents can expect “Dangerously cold wind chills as low as minus 2 in the northwest and 5 in the southeast,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
An extended period of subfreezing temperatures could cause pipes to burst.
Preparedness Actions
- Dress in layers, including a hat, face mask, and gloves, if you must go outside.
- Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
- Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors.
- Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
- To prevent freezing and possible pipe bursting, they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.
