Former 5-Star Running Back No Longer Enrolled at Alabama, Likely To Play Elsewhere
The 2021 college football season is in the books and all Alabama fan's attention has turned to roster management for 2022. According to Chris Hummer of 247Sports former 5-star running back Camar Wheaton is no longer listed in the Alabama student directory.
Wheaton is not in the transfer portal but the expectation is that he will not be returning to Tuscaloosa to play for the Crimson Tide.
Wheaton did not get into any games for Alabama in 2021 as he was hampered by a knee injury that kept him from fully participating.
The 5-foot-11 tailback out of Garland, Texas was considered the No. 3 running back in the 2021 class. The dynamic running back ran for 3,731 yards and 48 touchdowns in his highs school career. He was originally committed to Oklahoma but ended up flipping to Alabama on signing day of last year.
The expectation is that Wheaton will likely end up with the SMU Mustangs after entering the transfer portal. The Mustangs were one of Wheaton's finalists in high school along with Texas and TCU.
The Alabama running back room looks quite interesting for the 2022 season. Both Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams are coming off ACL injuries and Trey Sanders has had his own set of difficult circumstances. The Tide brought in transfer Jahmyr Gibbs from Georgia Tech and brings in Emmanuel Henderson and Jamarion Miller as freshman to carry the rock.
