Sickle Cell Disease affects approximate 100,000 Americans with one in every 365 Black Americans being born with the ailment; and according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, one in every 13 Black Americans  is born with Sickle Cell Trait. While the mortality rate for the disease has drastically improved over the last 60 years, more work and research are needed.

On Saturday, August 3, a comedy show will be held at the Bama Theater featuring Comedian Jermaine "FunnyMaine" Johnson and Comedian Lamar Pullom.

Tickets are only $25, and all proceeds will benefit the Sickle Cell Disease Association of West Alabama.  Since we all know at least one person affected by Sickle Cell Disease (or Sickle Cell Trait, which also has its list of possible complications), it's up to us all to support this event and help raise the funds for research.
