A Gordo man was charged with two counts of third-degree assault and two counts of reckless endangerment after a boat collision on the Black Warrior River Sunday night left two victims with head and back injuries.

According to court documents filed Tuesday, Jake Lowery, 34, was arrested and charged with the four Class-A misdemeanor crimes after driving his personal watercraft into the victims' boat, causing both of them to be ejected into the river.

The Gordo native was allegedly driving too close to the victims' boat and turned into the path of the vessel, causing the accident. The depositions filed in the cases against Lowery also allege he was under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.

Both victims had to seek medical attention after the collision, and their vessel was classified as a total loss.

Lowery was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail and released soon after on receipt of a $4,000 combined bond.
