Outside of my job, one of my greatest interests is real estate.  I’ve actually completed a real estate course, and I’m considering taking it again to get my license.

That being said, I keep my eye on property. It doesn’t matter if it’s residential or commercial, land to be developed or multifamily units. Real estate is just fascinating to me. I check numerous sites on a daily basis.

I like to see what new developments are being built in various areas, how listed homes compare to their immediate surroundings, and so forth.

Well, this morning, I did one of my browsings and came across a list for an apartment at 3831 3rd Ave East.  The years I worked at UPS , I learned a lot about Tuscaloosa streets, zip codes, and zip codes for most areas in West Alabama to be completely honest.

So, when I saw this particular address, I knew the general area.  I decided to look it up on the map…

Downing Place?

Well, it’s no longer known as Downing Place.  Today’s name is “The Gates at South Bend.” Sounds luxurious, right? It should! The complex touts itself as “Tuscaloosa's Most Affordable Gated Community!” Website.

Go on and be that, then!

One thing is for certain, the old complex certainly needed renovation.  The rebranding wasn’t a bad idea either. Downing Place was one of those names where discomfort immediately set in at the thought of going there for any reason. It had more than its fair share of headlines from violent crimes, fires, and more. Source.

None of that matters now.  Management is looking for new residents to take on what it describes as follows:
