Brookwood's first play from scrimmage resulted in a major error when senior quarterback Kobie Humpries pass was intercepted by Hillcrest corner Tyre Jackson to give the Patriots prime real estate in Panther Territory.

Hillcrest quarterback Ethan Crawford began the drive on the 42 yard-line with a pass to junior all-purpose back Chemar Moore for an 11-yard gain. The following play was ruled back after a penalty negated a 31 yard sweep to the house from Decorrion Thomas.

Crawford completed a 24 yard pass to Jamarcus Prince on the next play to set up Jayson Land's 11-yard touchdown run right through the middle of Brookwood's defense to put the first points on the board.

Brookwood received the ball on the ensuing kickoff, but was forced to punt after a sturdy effort from the Patriot's defense stopped them on third down.

The first play of Hillcrest's next drive was called back due to holding, setting the offense up with 20 yards to gain for the first down. Crawford completed another pass to Moore for six yards. With 14 yards to gain for the first down, senior running back Jamarion Johnson decided he wanted more and made a 75 yard house call to put the Patriots up by two scores.

Brookwood's following possession showed just how tough Mitchell's defense could be. First and second down each resulted in three-yard losses for the Panthers. The gate busted wide open on third down when Hillcrest knocked the ball loose and recovered the ball to set the team up at Brookwood's 20-yard line.

It only took one play for future Southern Miss quarterback Crawford to find Jameson Farley for a 20-yard touchdown.

Both teams punted on the subsequent drives, however Hillcrest's punt managed to pin Brookwood at its own two-yard line. Brookwood tried to run early in the drive to give itself some breathing room but after failing to move the ball much they had to attempt a pass to get out of dangerous territory.

The plan fell through when sophomore quarterback Jacob Rowell was sacked in the end-zone by Braylon Howard and Collin Dunn. Hillcrest received the following kickoff after the safety and one play later the first quarter had reached its end.

Crawford opened up the second quarter with a 28-yard scamper to set his team up on the Brookwood 12-yard line. In his last play on the field, Crawford handed the ball off to his fellow senior Johnson who muscled his way in for the 12-yard touchdown. The carry gave the Patriots a 30-0 lead with a few minutes off of the clock in the second quarter.

Crawford finished the game with 33 yards on the ground, 60 yards through the air on 4/7 passing, and one touchdown. The star quarterback for the Patriots did not need to use any of his heroics in tonight's victory.

Johnson's night was capped off with the run as well. He exited the game with 86 yards and two touchdowns to his name to earn player of the game honors.

Brookwood's next drive stalled out as well but ended in terrible fashion. After electing to punt on fourth-and-12 from midfield, a bad snap was recovered back at its own 20-yard line.

Hillcrest sophomore quarterback Bryson Kimbrough wasted no time with his first play on the field. Kimbrough threw a bubble screen to Moore and the junior back took the pass all the way in to score another touchdown for the Patriots.

Hillcrest got the ball back after the Panthers stalled out again, and began pounding Brookwood's defense with large chunk runs. The Patriots moved the ball down to the Brookwood six yard-line before Kimbrough called his number again and barreled in on a six-yard touchdown run.

Brookwood's offense finally saw some signs of progress on the next drive when Humphries completed a 28-yard pass to tight end Timothy Barron. However, Hillcrest's defense refused to allow any more progression and sacked Humphries on two of the next three plays before finally strip-sacking him to get the ball and end the first half.

It was hard to find much fault with how we played early on," said Mitchell.

The running clock in the second half made things move quickly for both teams and neither team was able to put any points on the board.

The closest instance came in the third quarter when Brookwood was able to drive the ball down the the Hillcrest 16 yard-line. The big drive from the Panthers was made possible by a pass from Rowell to Barron for 55 yards.

Barron finished the game with 83 yards receiving to give his team a bit of much needed offensive output in what was a tough night for Bramblett's offense.

"We need to figure out a way to get over the hump of playing teams with 'H's' on them...and we have to find ways to compete by doing the little things the right way and tonight we did very few of those," said Bramblett.

Brookwood (3-2) travels to Bessemer City (0-4) for a contest to give both teams a chance at a region win.

Hillcrest (5-0) travels to Gadsden City (2-3) for a non-region game next Friday.
