Alabama Signee Plans to Enter Portal
Alabama's defensive back room continues to take hits with its depth. The Crimson Tide will attempt to replace four starters from 2023.
Alabama signed several defensive backs in its recruiting class, but now they'll be down one.
Freshman early enrollee cornerback Jameer Grimsley is expected to enter the transfer portal and leave the Crimson Tide before he ever plays a snap for Alabama.
Grimsley was a four-star defensive back from Tampa Catholic High School in Tampa, Florida. The 6-foot-2, 165-pound cornerback held offers from Florida, Alabama, and Michigan, among others.
He was the 18th-ranked cornerback in the state of Florida and the 26th-ranked recruit in the state.
Grimsley will have all four years of eligibility remaining once he lands at his new school.
Alabama will now be down one of its top defensive back recruits while it tries to replace Kool-Aid McKinstry, Terrion Arnold, Jaylen Key, and now Caleb Downs, who also entered the transfer portal.
Malachi Moore is returning to Alabama, and he will look to be an anchor point for what will be a young and inexperienced secondary. Alabama had two cornerbacks who were expected to compete for a starting position, Trey Amos and Dezz Ricks, who entered the transfer portal.
