Crimson Tide Recruiting: Finally A Positive Update?
It seems like every time news breaks for the Alabama Crimson Tide, someone is transferring from the program or de-committing from Alabama following the retirement of head coach Nick Saban.
That was the case immediately following Coach Saban's retirement on Wednesday when five-star in-state wide receiver Ryan Williams de-committed from Alabama.
Williams re-classified to the 2024 class in December, meaning he has official visits that he can use before he signs on February 9, his birthday.
Williams also visited Texas A&M last weekend. He seemed to enjoy the visit.
The Ryan Williams dream seemed to be dead after Coach Saban retired and secondary coach Travaris Robinson left for the same position at Georgia. Robinson was Williams's primary recruiter while at Alabama.
Hope may not be dead yet for Crimson Tide fans, however. Williams took a surprise unofficial visit to Alabama on Tuesday, where he met the Crimson Tide staff and hung out with his friend currently on the roster, Jaylen Mbakwe. Williams and Mbakwe played against each other in the AHSAA 6A State Championship game at Bryant-Denny Stadium. According to reports, the visit went well, and Williams likes the new offensive staff.
Williams was also supposed to visit LSU ahead of his official visit to Alabama on January 19, but those plans changed. According to another report, Williams never showed up for his LSU visit. That's one hurdle Alabama had to jump.
Alabama could potentially make huge strides in Williams's recruitment. His quarterback, K.J. Lacey, is a Texas commit but is also expected to be with Williams on his visit. The Crimson Tide could look to land a huge win on the recruiting trail less than two weeks into the Kalen DeBoer era.
