Former Tide Safety Inks Deal With Packers

The Giants continue to lose starting players. After Saquan Barkley signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, they'll now lose starting safety Xavier McKinney in free agency.

According to Ian Rapoport, McKinney is expected to sign a four-year deal with the Green Bay Packers.

McKinney gets a four-year, $68 million deal with the Packers. The deal averages $17 million per year for the former Crimson Tide standout. According to Rapoport, McKinney will get $25 million in year one of the deal, frontloading the contract for the Packers.

The 36th overall pick from the 2020 NFL draft played three seasons for the Crimson Tide, totaling 175 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, 5 picks, 1 fumble recovery, and 2 touchdowns. He earned second-team All-American honors his junior season, and was named first-team All-SEC by coaches and the AP.

For the Giants, McKinney played four seasons, totaling 46 out of 49 possible starts, 279 tackles, six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, 27 pass breakups, nine picks, and one pick-six.

He'll join Former Alabama running back Josh Jacobs in signing with the Packers this free agency.
