Alabama Weather Alert: Early Week Strong to Severe Storms Likely

The Townsquare Media Weather Center is monitoring a frontal weather system that could impact some areas of Alabama on Monday night through Tuesday morning. Ahead of the system, the Central Alabama area could experience wind gusts up to 45 mph.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a "slight risk" of severe thunderstorms. James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said this covers “areas south of a line from Linden to Fort Deposit to Dothan.” In addition, a "marginal risk" that “extends as far north as Tuscaloosa, Wetumpka, and Eufaula” is in place.

Timing

“The main window for heavy rain and strong storms will come from about midnight Monday night through 10:00 a.m. Tuesday,” said Spann.

Possible Threats

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said, "damaging winds will be the main threat with this line. Moisture content is very high, with localized flooding possible in areas that receive heavy rainfall and areas that receive a succession of several storms.”

Rain Amounts

There is a possibility of heavy rain at times in Alabama, with amounts reaching around 2 inches, which could potentially lead to some instances of flooding.
