ALERT: Dangerous Heat Index Values Expected Across Portions of Alabama
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a “Heat Advisory” for today, Saturday, June 29, from Noon until 9 p.m.

This “Heat Advisory” impacts the following counties in Alabama: Fayette, Greene, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston.
The primary concern is that heat index values could be more than 105 degrees. The National Weather Service in Birmingham reminds us that “hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.”

Weekend Weather Outlook
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, said, “Classic summer weather continues across Alabama through tomorrow with hot, humid days, a mix of sun and clouds, and scattered showers and thunderstorms. The chance of your front yard seeing rain today is 60-70 percent, and 40-50 percent tomorrow.”

NWS PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities for early morning or evening.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible, and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
