Her injuries were severe at the time the shooting took place. An update had not been given at the time of writing this article on her present condition.

Taniyah Lowery has been arrested and charged with second-degree assault due to the incident.

Lowery, 19 years old, is a relative of the victim, but it was not specified how she is related to Houston.

Police have not made a statement saying if Houston got possession of the firearm and shot herself or if Lowery discharged the round that struck Houston.

Lowery was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on July 25 and was released later that day on a $10,000.00 bond.
