Marginal to Slight Risk of Severe Weather for Portions of Alabama

This week, the Townsquare Media weather center has focused on a storm system that has the potential to bring our coverage area strong to severe storms. The Storm Prediction Center has expanded the marginal risk for most of Alabama and increased risk to slight across the northwest counties.

Timing

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, said that the “main risk for strong to severe thunderstorms across Alabama will come from around 9:00 tomorrow night through 6:00 a.m. Sunday. A few storms could linger across Southeast Alabama through mid-morning Sunday.”

Threats

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, isolated damaging winds reaching speeds of up to 60 mph are expected, with a slight possibility of a brief tornado, particularly in the northwest counties.

Please be aware that there is a possibility of gusty winds, reaching speeds of 15-25 mph on average, and gusts up to 30 mph, ahead of the approaching storm system.

The forecast for our coverage area indicates a rainfall of 1 to 2 inches, which is great news considering the ongoing drought concerns in Alabama.
