Possible Rain, Brief Tornado Threat Kicks Off the Alabama Weekend

The weekend will kick off with an unsettled weather pattern. According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, you can expect several rounds of showers and occasional thunderstorm activity starting Friday night and continuing through the weekend.

Storm Prediction Center Outlook + Areas

Friday - "Marginal Risk" of severe thunderstorms for the southern 2/3 of Alabama.

Saturday - "Marginal Risk" for the southern counties.

Possible Threats

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said, "The main threat from the heavier storms tomorrow and Saturday over South Alabama will come from gusty winds; the tornado threat is very low.”

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said there is the potential for a “brief tornado, isolated damaging wind gust and heavy rain over urban areas could lead to localized flooding.”

Additionally, there is a possibility that the accumulated rainfall over a period of 3 to 4 days will vary, ranging from 1 inch in the Northwest to approximately 3 to 3.5 inches in the Southeast.
