Weather Alert: Strong to Severe Thunderstorms Expected in Alabama
Later today, the National Weather Service in Birmingham said we can expect scattered thunderstorms, with a “chance for a few storms to become severe.”
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said these thunderstorms could be “more numerous over the northern counties.”

The timing outlook for the overall threat area is between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. However, a more specific timing breakdown includes the Townsquare Media Coverage area.

Fayette – 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Greene – 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Hale – 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Lamar – 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Perry – 2 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Pickens – 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Sumter – 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Tuscaloosa – 2 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Walker – 2 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Risk Areas
“Some of the storms could be strong with gusty winds and small hail, but the overall severe weather risk is low. SPC has much of the state in a "marginal risk" (level 1/5),” said Spann.
Possible Threats
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said the primary threats are “damaging winds up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail.”
