2026 Black History Maker of Alabama – Eddie Fraction

Mr. Eddie Fraction has served as Percussion Instructor, Assistant Band Director, and Interim Director of Bands at Stillman College since Fall 2019, bringing steady leadership, institutional knowledge, and a deep commitment to student development. A 2007 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music and began his directing career in Memphis, Tennessee, where he taught at Melrose High School and Oak Haven High School from 2007 to 2015.

Since joining the Blue Pride Marching Tigers, Mr. Fraction has been instrumental in guiding the program through multiple periods of transition. His current interim appointment marks his third time serving in this role and reflects his aspiration to continue as the full-time Head Director of Bands. From September 2019 to present, he served as a critical bonding agent among band staff, students, and college administration during the entrance and departure of several Head Band Directors, ensuring continuity, morale, and program stability.

Black history means legacy, resilience, and responsibility. It’s the story of a people who turned struggle into strength and limitation into leadership. It reminds me that every opportunity I have is built on the sacrifices, courage, and brilliance of those who came before me.

To me, Black history is not just something we study: it’s something we live and carry forward every day. It shapes how I lead, how I serve, and how I pour into the next generation. I’m thankful for the lessons, the culture, the excellence, and the unwavering faith that continue to guide my path.

Black history means honoring the past, embracing the present, and committing myself to leaving the door wider for those coming behind me. - Eddie Fraction

In addition to his band leadership, Mr. Fraction served as Executive Assistant to the Dean of Education from 2018 to 2024, further demonstrating his versatility and dedication to the broader mission of Stillman College. He is currently committed to continuing his interdisciplinary master’s studies in Music and Media at the University of Alabama, underscoring his forward-thinking approach and dedication to professional growth.

Mr. Fraction remains poised to lead with vision, discipline, and passion, upholding and advancing the evolving traditions of The Stillman Way while preparing students for excellence both on and off the field.
