EDITOR’S NOTE: FIRST AFRICAN BAPTIST CHURCH HAS POSTPONED THIS EVENT.

As the seasons change and cooler temperatures begin making their way into West Alabama, many of us are doing the same thing. Likely digging through closets, pulling out jackets and sweaters, and figuring out what still fits.

But while you're making room for your winter wardrobe, consider this: those clothes you no longer wear could make a real difference for someone else.

First African Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa is helping families prepare for the changing seasons by opening its free clothing closet on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. until noon at the church, located at 2621 Stillman Boulevard in Tuscaloosa.

Through its "Blessing Our Community" initiative, the church is making clothing available at no cost to anyone in need. Whether it's a jacket that's been sitting in your closet for years, a sweater you've outgrown or children's clothing that no longer fits, gently used items can still have plenty of life left in them.

And with colder weather approaching, access to warm clothing can be especially important for families working to stretch their budgets.

The church is also putting out a special call for children's clothing donations in all sizes.
For parents, that request may sound familiar. Children grow quickly, and clothes that fit perfectly last winter might already be too small this year.

Instead of letting those items collect dust, consider giving them a second life by helping another family. The church's message is simple: "Clothing that is no longer needed in one household could be exactly what someone else is looking for."
