Chief Musician Adrienne Welker officially retired from the United States Navy on May 7 following 26 years of military service.

According to the press release from the United States Navy Band, a retirement ceremony honoring Welker was held at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., home of the United States Navy Band, the Navy’s premier musical organization.

Welker is a Tuscaloosa native and was presented with the Navy Commendation Medal in recognition of her leadership and years of service. According to the press release, reaching the rank of chief places Welker among fewer than 10 percent of enlisted Sailors who achieve the E-7 paygrade.

Welker earned a Bachelor of Music degree in music performance from Indiana University Bloomington and later pursued graduate studies at Northwestern University.

After winning a national audition, she joined the United States Navy Band in 2000 as a saxophone instrumentalist performing with both the Concert Band and Ceremonial Band. Following basic training, she officially reported to the U.S. Navy Band in Washington, D.C.

During her career with the Navy Band, Welker participated in six presidential inaugurations and two International Military Tattoos in Oslo, Norway. She also traveled across the country while touring nationally with the band.

According to the press release from the United States Navy Band, Welker’s career reflected decades of dedication to both military service and musical excellence.
