Kids Get Hands-On Hospital Experience In Northport
First graders from Flatwoods Elementary School are getting a behind-the-scenes look at the hospital this week, but this visit comes with a fun twist as they bring their favorite stuffed animals along for the experience.
Northport Medical Center is hosting its annual Teddy Bear Clinic, giving students a chance to explore the hospital in a way that feels more like play than a real appointment. The event is part of the hospital’s Adopt-A-School partnership and focuses on creating a positive first impression of healthcare environments for young students across the community.
During the clinic, children will step into the role of caregiver, helping “diagnose” and treat their teddy bears with guidance from DCH staff. From check-ups and bandages to pretend X-rays and other treatments, each station introduces kids to common parts of a hospital visit in a hands-on, interactive way that keeps them engaged and curious.
The goal is to take away the fear that often comes with medical settings. For many children, hospitals can feel overwhelming or intimidating before they ever walk through the doors for a real visit or procedure.

By allowing them to interact with equipment, meet caregivers, and ask questions in a relaxed setting, the experience helps build comfort and confidence before they ever need real care or treatment.
The Teddy Bear Clinic takes place Wednesday, April 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Northport Medical Center, giving students a chance to learn while having fun in a safe environment.
