Stillman College Hosts HBCUAC Basketball Championship Week

Championship basketball is coming back to the west side.

Stillman College will once again host the Hope Credit Union HBCU Athletic Conference Basketball Championships February 23 through March 1, turning Tuscaloosa into the center of HBCU hoops for a full week.

The action tips off Monday, February 23, with the conference Cheerleading Competition. Tournament play for both men and women begins Tuesday, February 24, inside Birthright Alumni Hall and builds all the way to the championship games on Sunday, March 1.

This marks the third straight year Stillman has hosted the HBCUAC tournament, continuing Tuscaloosa’s growing reputation as a destination for HBCU athletics and culture.

“This championship brings together competition, culture, and community,” said Stillman College President Dr. Yolanda W. Page. in a press release sent to Townsquare Media.

“We’re proud to welcome teams, fans, and families back to campus for a week that celebrates the spirit and tradition of HBCUs.”

The tournament will feature member institutions from multiple states, bringing high energy crowds, school pride, cheer squads, and postseason intensity to the city.

HBCUAC Commissioner Dr. Kiki Baker Barnes said the event represents more than basketball. “Each year, the Hope Credit Union HBCUAC Basketball Championships represents more than competition. It’s a celebration of excellence, pride, and the rich legacy of our member institutions.”

According to Visit Tuscaloosa President and CEO Kelsey Rush, the championship week generates more than $1.3 million in economic impact and approximately 1,400 hotel room nights locally.

Daily tickets will be available, including special pricing for youth and students. Doors open one hour before the first game each day.
