Alabama’s Elijah Pritchett Granted Youthful Offender Status
University of Alabama offensive lineman Elijah Pritchett has been granted youthful offender status following his arrest Wednesday night.
Pritchett was granted the status on Thursday by a Tuscaloosa Municipal Court judge after he was charged with knowingly transmitting a sexually transmitted disease.
The Tuscaloosa Police Department confirmed the news after the 6-foot-6, 312-pound tackle was arrested on Wednesday night on a Class C misdemeanor. Pritchett was released shortly afterward on a $500 bond.
To be considered for youthful offender status, the individual has to be between 18 and 21 years old, allowing the individual to enter a plea for their crime to take a lighter sentence. If granted youthful offender status, the record of the criminal charge will be permanently sealed away from the public.
The redshirt freshman from Columbus, Georgia has appeared in all 13 games for the Crimson Tide this season. To begin the season, Pritchett was in the rotation, competing for a starting job at left tackle with true freshman Kadyn Proctor. By midseason, Pritchett was a reserve lineman who would see snaps on special teams and late in games.
Pritchett redshirted his first year at Alabama but was poised to compete for a starting job next season. It is unclear at this time Pritchett's standing with the team. It has also not been announced whether Pritchett will travel with the team to Pasadena, California to take on the Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl.
