Body Found on Highway 43 in Northport, Police Suspect Fatal Hit-and-Run
Police in Northport are investigating after a body was discovered on a highway there on Wednesday evening.
Keith Carpenter, the assistant chief of the Northport Police Department, told the Thread that a motorist called dispatchers and reported what appeared to be a person's body off the highway near its intersection with Malone Road.

NPD officers responded and found a person deceased there, Carpenter said. The call came in around 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
Carpenter said the preliminary belief is that the person was struck and killed by a vehicle and that the driver left the scene of the accident.
NPD's Accident Reconstruction Unit is working the scene, and Carpenter said the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit may also be consulted if this appears to be a homicide.
No other details were immediately available, and the victim's identity will not be released until notification of next of kin.
