District Attorney Hays Webb will deliver the keynote address at the annual Memorial Day Program hosted by Tuscaloosa County PARA's Veterans Memorial Park Association.

The event, which is in partnership with the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center and the University of Alabama Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, will take place on May 29 at 9 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, located at 1701 McFarland Boulevard East in Tuscaloosa.

Brian C. Davis, PARA's CEO and fellow veteran said the event is an opportunity to express appreciation for service members who work daily to safeguard the country.

“Memorial Day is a day of remembrance," Davis said. "It is the day on which we pause to remember and honor those service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedom."

According to a release, Webb enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17 and was a peacetime infantryman from 1985 to 1989. He served as a rifleman and mortar squad leader with the Golf Company of the 2nd Battalion 6th Marine Regiment and the Golf Company of the 2nd Battalion 8th Marine Regiment before being honorably discharged as a corporal.

Webb is a member of the Mike Spann Detachment of the Marine Corps League and is a charter member of the Alabama Marines Foundation where he serves on the board of directors.

The release said in addition to speakers, the program will feature Hillcrest High School's Army JROTC that will present colors and the Tuscaloosa Firefighters Local 403 Emerald Society Pipes & Drums will perform “Amazing Grace.”

State and local elected officials, Veterans and Veterans committee members are expected to participate.

The release said in the event of inclement weather, the program will be moved to Magnolia Shelter in Snow Hinton Park.
