A Mexican restaurant in Tuscaloosa is open again after relocating to make way for the city's first standalone Raising Cane's.

Made in Mexico opened two years ago, replacing Margarita Grill just off McFarland Boulevard, across 13th Street from Whataburger.

As the Thread exclusively reported, though, the shopping center that housed the restaurant, a military recruiting center, a WingZone, and more is being demolished to make way for new development anchored by Cane's.

That demolition got underway this week, though managers at Made in Mexico told the Thread they'd signed a five-year lease and hated to leave their original location.

Earlier this month, they reopened in a new space in North Tuscaloosa, on the other side of the Black Warrior River.

They're replacing the Sitar Indian Express, which closed shortly after opening in the longtime home of Chang's Chinese restaurant.

Their menu of Mexican favorites returns, along with breakfast and brunch.

They are still working with the Tuscaloosa City Council to obtain a liquor license to sell beer and other drinks in the new space.
