Sheriff: Human Remains Discovered in Walker County Are Likely Missing Person’s
Human remains have been found in the Oakman community of Walker County, and investigators are testing them against a missing persons case, Sheriff Nick Smith said Sunday.
A tip led investigators to the remains, Smith said in a statement given to the Daily Mountain Eagle in Jasper.

“Through a joint investigation, we are hopeful that the remains may belong to an individual reported missing from our county over the past couple of years,” Smith said. “However, a positive identification has not been made, and investigators are awaiting DNA testing and forensic confirmation before making that determination.”
Smith did not name the missing person or say when the remains were found.
The sheriff credited the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the Walker County District Attorney’s Office and the Walker County Commission with providing equipment and resources to the investigation. He said his office would release more as the case allows.
