The cast and crew of Deadpool 2 are mourning the loss of a stuntwoman killed on set, and she was identified on Tuesday (Aug. 15.)

Joi “SJ” Harris was performing a motorcycle stunt for the first time on set, when she lost control of her bike and crashed through a glass storefront window.  The production, set in Vancouver Canada, shut down immediately following the tragic fatality and has not confirmed when filming will resume.

According to Harris' online bio, she started riding motorcycles in 2013 in Brooklyn and soon became the first African American woman licensed to compete in American Motorcyclist Association races.  The experienced road racer had been rehearsing the stunt all day the previous weekend and even performed the stunt 4 times successfully right before the 5th attempt went awry.

Harris was the stunt double for the character of Domino, played by Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), in the superhero sequel which stars Ryan Reynolds. She was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred for continuity purposes, since Domino wasn't wearing one in the scene.

This isn't the first stuntperson who has died on set this year. On July 12th, on the set of The Walking Dead, John Bernecker died shortly after suffering massive head injuries from a 22-foot fall.
