Late April Severe Weather Threat for West, Central Alabama
It’s still severe weather season for our area which typically lasts through May. This week we are closely monitoring a weather system that could bring severe weather conditions to our area on Thursday where a few storms could become severe.
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said that “wet weather returns Wednesday and Thursday with periods of rain statewide. Thunderstorms could be involved, especially Thursday when the air becomes unstable. A few strong storms can't be ruled out.”
Currently, there is the possibility of severe thunderstorms on Thursday and the National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” for Central Alabama. The primary threats are “large hail and damaging wind gusts.”
Timing
The present thoughts on the timing of this active weather are Thursday afternoon into the evening. There will be more insight provided as this storm system develops over the next few days.
