Strong Storms, Damaging Winds Possible Across West Alabama

West Alabama is in for typical late-summer weather, with muggy conditions and the potential for strong to severe storms today, Wednesday, August 26. Here’s what you need to know to stay weather-aware.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk for strong to severe storms for this afternoon into the evening.

“Damaging winds with gusts up to 60 mph” are the primary threats, said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist, added that “heavier storms this afternoon and early tonight could produce strong wind gusts and lots of lightning.”

The Storm Prediction Center has given a good portion of West Alabama a 5 to 14% probability of Severe Winds.
