No one was injured when gunfire broke out near an apartment complex in central Tuscaloosa late Monday night, a police spokeswoman said Tuesday morning.

Stephanie Taylor, the Tuscaloosa Police Department's public information officer, said TPD responded to reports of gunshots in the area of 18th and 19th street around 11 p.m. Monday Night.

Several residents in the area called 911 to report the gunfire and when investigators arrived they found a home on 18th Street behind Central High School had been struck multiple times.

No other damage was reported, and no one was injured. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is conducting a follow-up investigation.

This was the second shooting reported in Tuscaloosa Monday, hours after dozens of law enforcement officers responded to an officer-involved shooting at The Links apartment complex. Two TPD officers were injured, including one who was shot in his bulletproof vest, but both were treated and discharged from DCH Monday night. The suspect, reportedly a 20-year-old fugitive from Mississippi, is in custody.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story erroneously said the shooting took place at a nearby apartment complex. A TPD spokesperson has since clarified that calls about the shooting came from the apartment complex, but the structure hit by gunfire was a nearby house, not one of the apartments. The Tuscaloosa Thread regrets the error and is happy to set the record straight.
