Today was my first day at WTUG, and my second week as an adult in Tuscaloosa, Al. I visited Tuscaloosa a couple times as a kid, but I really don’t remember. Coincidentally, when I was hired my godparents were already living here, which gave me the perfect place to crash for the time being.

I flew in last week from Ft. Lauderdale airport. I was greeted with good weather, tons of pick-up trucks and southern accents.

I got the good ole Tuscaloosa tour, which included a stop by the University of Alabama. I’ve heard so much about the university, that I was excited to see the gigantic campus. My first Tuscaloosa meal was on campus at ‘Buffalo Phils’ – the honey barbeque wings are AMAZING!

I had a nice nap thanks to jetlag and probably the ‘itis’ from the wings.  Once I woke up, we went to my favorite store in the world, Target! It was a great surprise to see that Tuscaloosa is ‘blessed’ with a Super Target.

I was so excited about my first day at work that I had my clothes all laid out for the next morning. It felt like the first day of school again!

I woke up at 6:30AM (way before my alarm) and got ready for the day. My godmom had me nervous about Tuscaloosa traffic so I arrived to work 30 minutes early (rather be early than late, right?)

At 8:50AM, I gave myself a mini-pep talk and walked right into my new workplace.

I met everyone on staff, and they were very welcoming and friendly.

I went to lunch with my bosses, Mickey and David at ‘Southland Restaurant’. I had a sweet tea, southern fried pork chops, green beans, and mashed potatoes.  It was a delicious country meal and I will definitely be back.

So far, it’s been a great first day.

I’m ready to make my mark in the community of Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas.
