Now Accepting Applications for Spring and Summer Interns
Most of us in radio gained our path to this exciting field by the way of an internship. It’s a great introduction to the field and to have a hands-on learning experience in the constantly developing broadcasting industry.
The Balance Careers says that a “great internship provides the knowledge and skills required to become successful in a specific career field. The most amazing internship experiences are those that prepare students for the work they hope to do after graduating from college.”
I had that and then some. My internship was in 1992, (gasp) which was 30 years ago. Honestly, I am still very grateful for the experience. It truly was my connection to the world of radio which led to a part-time position that propelled me into a full-time position in another market. My parents were happy about that. I always love sharing what I have learned with college students.
Indeed notes that internships are important because of many factors. Internships “present you with new skills and opportunities that you would not receive otherwise. Interns not only gain technical knowledge within the industry of their choice, but they also learn how to interact with professionals in a workplace setting, and develop essential soft skills like time management, organization, adaptability, problem-solving and teamwork.”
