Parade and Celebration for WBC Heavyweight Champion and Tuscaloosa Native Deontay Wilder

The City of Tuscaloosa will hold a parade and celebration for World Boxing Council heavyweight champion and Tuscaloosa resident Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder on Saturday, Jan. 24.

The parade will start at 2 p.m. on Greensboro Avenue at 13th Street. The procession will travel north to the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. Parade viewers are invited to follow the parade in procession to the Amphitheater.

At 2:45 p.m. there will be a celebration in the Amphitheater to commemorate Wilder.

A native of Tuscaloosa, Wilder started his boxing career in 2005. In 2008, he was signed by Oscar De La Hoya to Golden Boy Promotions and won a bronze medal in the Beijing Olympics. He trains out of Skyy Gym in Northport. His current heavyweight world title was previously held by boxing greats Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson.

Free parking is available in the City's intermodal facility at 23rd Avenue and 7th Street. Gates to the Amphitheater will open at 2 p.m. After the celebration, buses will run from the Amphitheater to the intermodal facility.
