Petition Calls For Confederate Statue To Be Replaced With Chadwick Boseman
While we are still grieving the loss of Hollywood Actor Chadwick Boseman who died last Friday (August 28th) due to colon cancer at the age of 43 his hometown of Anderson, South Carolina is making moves to keep his legacy alive in grand fashion.
WBSN is reporting that fans of Boseman has started an online petition on replacing the statute of a Confederate soldier with him in memorial of the deceased actor.
Chadwick Boseman has played iconic historic figures like baseball legend Jackie Robinson, R&B icon James Brown, the first Black Supreme Court Justice Thrugood Marshall, and of course King T'Challa in Black Panther while secretly battling this disease so he is definitely superhero status.
South Carolina Mayor Terence Roberts said the local government is in quandary and this matter could be subject to fall under the state's Heritage Act where this measures reportedly prohibits the removal of Confederate monuments unless two-thirds of the states legislature votes to do so per The Hill.
The petition has so far received over 20,000 signatures and still counting and it would be real thoughtful to have a statue in his honor.
Chadwick Boseman's final performance Ma Rainey's Black Bottom is to be released later this year.
