Proposed Apartment Complex at Rice Mine Road Loop Goes Before Tuscaloosa City Council
Another major apartment complex could be coming to Tuscaloosa if the City Council approves a rezoning request at a public hearing.
The hearing was supposed to happen Tuesday, September 19, but it will be put off for four weeks, according to WVUA.
Developer Stan Pate has proposed a new apartment complex that would sit along the Rice Mine Loop along McFarland Blvd, but he needs the rezoning to move forward. Earlier this year, the Tuscaloosa’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted against recommending the rezoning, citing the city's moratorium on new student housing developments.
But the City Council doesn't have to follow the commission's recommendation. They will be able to make the decision during the meeting, which will originally supposed to be held Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
The Alliance for Responsible Growth has been pushing residents to attend the meeting to voice their opposition to the development.
